This region contains three distinct landscapes: Terres de l’Ebre, including the Ebro Delta, rugged mountain ranges and surprising agricultural landscapes; the Secans de Lleida drylands with steppe-like habitats and some very rare birds; and the high Catalan Pyrenees, a refuge for alpine species.

The Ebro-Secans de Lleida-Pyrenees corridor is the European birdwatching destination with the greatest diversity of birds in the smallest area. On a single trip you could spot up to 250 species, and up to 350 species can be found in the course of a year, including birds native to steppe, high mountain, aquatic and Mediterranean habitats. There are also species here that are unique in Europe. A true birder’s paradise!
This birdwatching corridor contains every kind of landscape: coastal and inland marshes, Mediterranean scrubland, agricultural fields, dramatic mountain ranges and escarpments, deciduous and coniferous forests, alpine meadows, high mountain lakes and peaks of up to 3,000 metres. A rich landscape that means a great diversity of habitats for birds.
With each season, the landscape changes and we can experience the unique sights of nature, such as the migrations of birds, the curious behaviours of some species during the mating season, spring flowers blooming on fallow fields and fruit trees coming into blossom, the colours of the forests in autumn, the fascinating transformation of the rice fields or the silence of snow-covered mountains. Any time of the year is a good time to visit us.
In addition to birds, our region is also home to other fascinating wildlife, such as wild goats in the Els Ports mountains, deer in the Pre-Pyrenees and chamois in the high mountains. With a good guide they are easy to spot. The number of bears in the Pyrenees is also increasing steadily, although they remain elusive.
As well as its natural beauty, the region’s cultural heritage attracts visitors from all over the world. Its Romanesque churches, dry stone constructions and many traditions are of enormous cultural and ethnological interest. This cultural wealth is also reflected in a globally renowned gastronomic tradition.
