Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park: Mata de Valencia

Catalonia’s only National Park is one of its most iconic mountain landscapes, containing a representative range of Pyrenean habitats (coniferous and riparian forests, alpine meadows, scree, lakes, bog, etc.). Typical high mountain birds can be observed here, from woodland to rock-dwelling species, as well as birds of alpine habitats. There are several valleys leading into the National Park, all of them recommendable, but for spotting woodland birds the best place is the Mata de Valencia (or Gerdar forest), the largest fir forest in the Iberian Peninsula, in the Àneu valleys.

This foundation rescues mistreated or injured wild animals and, if possible, returns them to the wild. When this is not possible, they are homed in the zoo, which also offers educational activities such as guided tours, bird of prey flying displays, experiences with owls and photographing birds in captivity.
